Testing... 1... 2... 3...

Dear Wonderful and Amazing Students,

Many of you have or will take the Washington state assessments this spring and there are a few important things I want you to know…

Although these tests will tell us something, they will not tell us everything.

They do not measure how special you are, how hard you’ve worked this year, nor your amazing talents.

They do not measure kindness, personality, nor character.

They do not measure AWESOMENESS, a test that you have already passed with flying colors!

Your 5th grade test scores will not be on your resume or job application, and they will certainly not get you into college.

The information gathered will only be seen by you, your teachers and your families. I will use my class scores to see where I can focus more attention next year. Your Learning Coach will consider your scores, in addition to what they see EVERY DAY. We all know state assessments do not always measure how smart you are. After all, there are many different kinds of “smart.”

When you go to your testing site I want you to have confidence because I have confidence in YOU. I am already proud of you. I know you have grown personally and academically this year - way more than could ever be measured on a test.

On testing day, be self-assured, do your best, take your time, and remember to BREATHE…

In other words...

YOU'VE GOT THIS!

Citing Multiple Sources

When we answer questions completely, we do 2 things…

Make a claim.
Cite evidence  from a source to prove our claim is correct.

WHAT IS THIS GIRL'S CLAIM?
WHAT EVIDENCE DOES SHE HAVE TO PROVE HER CLAIM?

Let's practice.

(click any graphic for a closer look)

Now, if you really want to prove your claim...

HULK UP YOUR RESPONSE
BY CITING MULTIPLE SOURCES!

QUESTION:
Is it important for school age children to
get a good night's sleep?

Here are two sources to help you with your claim.

Before you answer, where is the evidence?

Can you find helpful evidence in both sources?

Add this handy printable to your SLASH notebook.

Then when answering an open-ended question, use the
CITING MULTIPLE SOURCES ORGANIZER!
